Yesterday was sort of a long day at the
hospital for me and Miss Nora. Daddy stopped by in the morning on his way to work after spending the night at home with Ruby. Then, it was just the two of us until about 2:00 when daddy arrived to take us home. We took lots of walks through the halls of the birthing unit, rocked and read books in our room, and got dressed so that we could exit the hospital feeling like human beings. We also met with the pediatrician who discharged Nora and the OB who discharged me. We both received great reports, so it was a good way to be sent off.
Once home, we hung out for a while, grandpa Bob stopped by and we waited for Ruby to get home from school and dance class. The first thing Ruby said as she walked in the house was, "where's baby Nora?" She completely bypassed my request for a hug and went on a search for her sister. She wanted nothing to do with dinner, because that would mean not being able to hold Nora. She definitely loves her little sis- I wonder how long until the novelty wears off?!
Our first night home was exhausting. We forgot how tiring it is to care for a newborn! It really wouldn't be so bad, but because I'm nursing, we have to feed every 2-3 hours, which meant setting the alarm. I'm pretty sure Eleanor would sleep several hours in a stretch if we didn't keep waking her up to eat. In fact, she didn't cry once all night! Tyler and I spent a lot of the night laying in bed analyzing the sounds we heard coming from the monitor and getting up to check on Eleanor... just in case. At one point, I
thought I heard her gagging so I ran into her room and sure enough, she had spit up. After that, it was very difficult to sleep. So far, she is such a good baby! She pretty much goes with the flow of things. For that, we are very lucky.
Here are some photos from the past 24 hours:
